Oliver - birth story

Oliver was born at 8:03 am Monday August 12th at saint marys hospital in Reno.
Labor started at about 2:30 am. I was not sure it was really starting as I had several false starts in the past two weeks. So I stayed in bed for 30 mins and the contractions got stronger, then I got in the shower for 15 minutes and they got even stronger. They were about 4 minutes apart and 1 min long at this point. I felt the contractions all in the front which was much different than my first labor (all back labor). Bill called the midwife at 3:30 and I woke up my mom to take care of Conner. Then off to the hospital by 4:00, arriving just before 5:00. The contractions were pretty manageable at this point and mostly I was sooo excited the baby finally coming. At the hospital I had to get iv antibiotic but first they had to find a vein. 3 pokes and a half hour later, finally done. What a lovely thing to do to a woman in labor! Finally all the pokes and monitoring were done (4cm at this point), I was able to get in the tub till about 7am. Loved the tub! In the tub I was talking to Bill and the nurses. I felt in control still. Contractions about 2 mins apart when I got out of the tub. Unknown to me the nurse took my midwife (lynne) aside and told her she did not think I was in active labor. And told my midwife she should probably leave because I wad unlikely to have the baby till that night. Thankfully Lynne knew me better and did not listen. Oliver was born an hour later. So about that last hour... it was very intense, very very intense. I remember this from my first labor and I knew it couldn't last forever. But it sure seemed to at the time. Started pushing about 7:55, water broke at 7:58, Oliver was born at 8:03. He was healthy and pink and beautiful!
